Information for Unregistered Health Practitioners From 1 August 2008, the NSW Health Commission's powers in relation to unregistered health practitioners were broadened under the Health Legislation Amendment (Unregistered Health Practitioners) Act 2006, which underpins a Code of Conduct for Unregistered Health Practitioners.

The Commission's powers following an investigation into an unregistered practitionerThe Commission has the power to impose a prohibition order and/or to issue a public statement about an unregistered health practitioner and their services. A prohibition order may ban a practitioner from providing health services or place conditions on their provision of health services for a specified period or permanently. It is a criminal offence to breach a prohibition order. If the practitioner advertises their services following the imposition of a prohibition order, they must include the terms of the Prohibition Order in the advertisement. They must also advise patients of the existence of the Order before treating them. Any failure to comply with these requirements is a criminal offence. The Vocational Training Board establishes traineeships in NSW. Through a consultative process between peak industry groups, employers and unions, facilitated by the ITAB, qualifications are identified that meet industry requirements and have appropriate award arrangements. This information is submitted to the Board for the declaration of a vocational training order in accordance with NSW legislation.
As qualifications have a vocational training order established, they are posted on the NSW DET Commissioner’s Bulletin. Further advice is available from NSW DET http://apprenticeship.det.nsw.edu.au/index1.htm

The Complementary and Alternative Health qualifications in the HLT07 Health Training Package have not been identified as suitable for VET in Schools pathways.
